WHERE DO WE GO WHEN WE DIE?
You could be Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul or Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, or maybe even an Army Hero, Statesman, and Senator like John McCain; if you live, one day you will eventually die. This has been one of the greatest mysteries of man. Will I go to Heaven or Hell? Will I be re-incarnated and come back in some other form? Perhaps, I will go into Purgatory; and just stay in “limbo”until I can get myself together?
What is God’s Plan for Death?
Let all things be done decently and in order. (1 Corinthians 14:40) Although, when we look at this in context, the writer was speaking on the subject of spiritual gifts; I believe we can agree that ALL still means ALL, right? For this reason, let us look to the word of God for the decent and orderly process for the dead or as it is termed in Scripture, those who are asleep. “But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep,”(1 Thessalonians 14:13). Scripture is quite clear on the issue of death, as it is described as the last enemy to be conquered and defeated by Jesus Christ.
The Order of Service…
“For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the first fruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.” ( 1 Corinthians 15:21-23) Again, the Thessalonian writer who shares this nugget…“ For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”(Thessalonians 4:16-17)
