CAN A MAN ACTUALLY BLESS ANOTHER MAN?
Last week, while listening to a local radio station, I heard the announcer give his exegesis on this topic. He was adamant about the fact that we as mere men are not capable of giving anyone a blessing; only God can do this, according to him.
I believe in the power of the spoken word according to Scripture:
“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you lifeanddeath, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:” (Deuteronomy 30:19)
It is so very crucial to me that we who are called to disseminate the word of God accurately; I feel convicted to utilize my platform to re-examine this topic…As always, your replies are certainly welcomed!
Let’s Take A Look In the Book…
The Bible records the history of the blessings began in creation and continued throughout the New Testament. When God made the first man (Adam) he said man was made in His very on image. Immediately, after creating man the very first thing that Our Heavenly Father would do is bless the man. Therefore, from that point on man was gifted with the blessing and capable to use that attribute with His authority. Then there was the story of Issac and his son Esau.
“And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where is he that hath taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him? yea, and he shall be blessed.”( Genesis 27:33)
WHAT IS A BLESSING?
“For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;”(Hebrews 7:1).
In fact, this Scripture acknowledges that not only are we capable of blessing one another; we can even bless God! But wait, to truly understand I believe we need to define the word.
What is a blessing? “A blessing is a prophetic exhortation either spoken or in song offered as a spiritual communication from one living soul to another…”
