IS THERE REALLY POWER IN A NAME?
NAME IT and CLAIM IT?
If I said the names, Coca-Cola, Microsoft, Nike, Trump, or even Corona Virus, would you agree that they are immediately recognized as significantly great names? Historically, man has always been on a personal pursuit to make their names great. On the surface, the act of acquiring a good name can really be a lofty and admirable ambition; the problem occurs when we attempt to achieve the goal in vanity and without God’s blessing. In fact, Scripture describes this as a common evil decease among men. “There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, and it is common among men: A man to whom God hath given riches, wealth, and honor, so that he wants nothing for his soul of all that he desires, yet God gives him not power to eat thereof, but a stranger eateth it: this is vanity, and it is an evil disease.”(Ecclesiastes 6:1-3)
WHAT IS THE RELEVANCE OF A NAME?
“A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold.” (Proverbs 22:1) First of all, in Creation, the Scriptures record when God formed every living beast from the field and every fowl in the air, he could have given them a name; but instead he gave that task to the first man, Adam. “And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam, there was not found a help meet for him.” (Genesis 2:19)
THE GREATEST NAME OF ABOVE ALL NAMES IS JESUS CHRIST…
“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9-11) It occurs to me that there was a testimonial encounter regarding “the sending out of the seventy” where the Lord gave power from on high over the enemy. You may begin to wonder what this has to do with a name, Right? Listen to this powerful response for the very mouth of Jesus..“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.” (Luke 10:19-20)
