In our earlier post, we have focused our attention primarily on shooting the ball effectively and accurately. However, when it comes down to it most of our basketball contemporaries would agree that good defense wins basketball games. It will create more opportunities to control the game-flow and will allow your team increased attempts at victory over the opponent. We will deal with the subject of quality control in greater detail in the book “Faith and Free Throws: Seven Days To Improve Your Game and Your Life.” It is my professional opinion that you will never become complete B-baller’s without applying and utilizing strong defensive tactics. Now, you may wonder why I choose to emphasize defense in a book with a topic that is based upon shooting the free throw. My reason is consistent with our topic, because a strong defensive player, like a strong and accurate shooter, will require excellent timing, rhythm, and motion.

Basically, we are trying to minimize the amount of movement and minimize the chances for error. If you practice this formula, you will maximize the quality of your game. The rhythm and timing must be identical every time you shoot the free throw. Our rhythm and timing must be incorporated into both our mental and physical mechanics. To complete the Pre-Shot Routine, it must be done within three seconds using the following steps. Elbow In, Bend your knees, Follow through with releasing the ball off the fingertips
