LIFE LESSONS AND OBSERVATIONS:
“Only you can prevent forest fires!” I adopted this popular theme from “Smokey the Bear” as a way of monitoring my life. The thought process speaks to this fact: a forest fire begins with a flicker, and if you don’t contain it early, it will become a raging fire that soon becomes totally out of control. You simply cannot put it out! The forest fire is a metaphor for the many struggles that we each will deal with in life.
Take Good Care of yourself, and then take good care of someone else. This is a completely reasonable and logical concept. How can you really take good care of someone else, if you don’t take good care of yourself? You can’t! When Jesus was asked, “What is the great commandment of all”? He answered, “Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and all thy might and love your neighbor as you love yourself” (Matthew 22:36-40). The emphasis is drawn on stewardship and the reasonable service of taking quality care of your living body, your inner circle of friends, and the lifestyle you have chosen.
